Our story

A fair marketplace for the world's handmade craft.

Ubuntu Crafts connects independent artisans across Africa and beyond with buyers who value work made by hand — organised the way craft actually lives: by region, country and technique.

Why we built Ubuntu Crafts

Too much of the world's handmade craft reaches buyers stripped of its story — and too little of the price reaches the maker. Ubuntu Crafts exists to change both.

Artisans open a shop for free and list unlimited fixed-price or live-auction pieces. A single, transparent commission is charged only when an item sells, and the earnings calculator shows the exact take-home before anything is published.

Buyers discover work through a cultural map — North, West, East and Southern Africa, plus Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas — and can bid in real time on one-of-a-kind pieces with anti-sniping protection built in.

Become a seller

Artisans first

Free to join, no subscriptions. Makers keep the majority of every sale and own their shopfront.

Rooted in place

Every piece is tagged by region, country and technique, so provenance and culture travel with the craft.

Transparent by design

A single per-sale commission, shown before you publish. No hidden listing or billing fees.

Made to last

Handmade, one-of-a-kind work — sold at a fixed price or won fairly in a soft-close live auction.

The regions we represent

A living taxonomy of craft traditions — explore any region to see the makers and techniques within.
